The newest version of Microsoft Word (2008) saves files by default in a new format (.docx) that cannot be opened by previous versions of Microsoft Word. Until more people upgrade to MS Word 2008, it is best to change the default save setting to save as .doc rather than .docx documents.
With MS Word open, go to Preferences (probably under the "Word" menu), then click on Output and Sharing > Save, and select "Save files as: Word 97-2004 document .doc)" When you get to a point where you can use the newest features of Word, then you may need to use the Save As menu to revert back to the .docx document mode. |
